I found someone selling a yamaha GEP50 locally that sounds ok from the one video on youtube i could find (it has dist/comp/limiter/etc) but i don't know for sure till i test it out in person. I own a yamaha GC2020 compressor I might experiment with, but i've read a lot of bad reviews, but i still look forward to testing it out to see if it works and what i can do with it. I also have a Digitech GSP5 which has better distortion, but no compressor in it. I currently own a ART Mach II which has distortion, but I'm not loving it. though line in is fine too and in some cases might be how it goes. this is what i was planning on running the guitar through and micing it. What I have right now is a Fender Quad tube amp which has no gain. but the unit was bad on ebay so I had to return it. I was trying to get my hands on a Zoom 9030 as I know this was used by NIN for Broken (though I understand he did a lot more to the sound with turbosynth, etc). the 90's happen to be when i acquired most of my used gear at the time so it wasn't too hard to already have a studio that mostly followed these guidelines (sorry Triton, you're out). 1994 is when the asteroids arrive to give you an idea. I'm working on a video game set in a post apocalyptic 1996. and I'm looking to get my hands on a good distortion effect for guitar.

The only thing that changes is the face plate/silk screen.ĭon't know how interested you are, but it would be interesting to see the internals of the controller you have, and see if the main PC board is the same as the hand controller.I have a project where I'm limiting myself to use only gear made in 1994 or older. Those had hand controllers from what I've been lead to believe, are all common. Also, say if you had a unit like the IPS33b, they came with a hand held controller, that used that same 6-pin mini-Din propriety cable. Not sure if they are all the same foot controllers across the Digitech line from that era.

More or less, a MIDI in and MIDI out plus phantom power. These have the 6-Pin mini-Din deal? Not a "normal" 5-7 Pin Din? I'd say they are a MIDI controller, set up with phantom power from the unit being controlled, with MIDI "handshake" - by that I mean that is how the presets on the footcontroller mimic's what's on the unit being controlled and vice versa.

Also, you would still need to hack into it physically to work out how to power it. Short answer is it could be possible, but it's usefulness outside of a Digitech/Harmon device (Johnson Amps/J-Station, possible some Lexicon stuff?) would be pretty limited. These older GSP pedals are not anywhere near the same league. And you will want to send lots of these messages with one button push. I've been researching MIDI FCs an awful lot this week If you have a rack of units, you want to send different messages: PC, CC, SysEx and button groups within the FC. Modern MIDI FCs can do so much more than one message at a time they can send many and all types of midi messages. My GSP2101 FC is darn near NOS, too.it is MINT!
Thing is, the love affair stops there, because the build quality is quite poor the treadle pedal has a very shallow throw/moveable range. Phantom power I love and the separate powered midi FC socket to the 2101 is a bonus. The buttons a fairly quiet acoustic noise when in use. 18 character display is nice when you set up toggles and min/max to specific modules that 18 character display shows those changes with no extra programming. The best thing about the 2101 FC is the proprietary language the 2101 has with the FC. I am currently setting up my GSP2101 and GSP2101 FC (rebadged Digitech Control One).
